
Adjunct Assistant Professor - School of Information
Dr. Lance Hayden is a career cybersecurity professional and academic, with extensive experience across the public, private, and academic sectors. Dr. Hayden is currently an Assistant Professor in the Cybersecurity program of Keene State College and a Lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin. Before joining the KSC faculty full-time, Dr. Hayden spent thirty-five years in the information security field, beginning as a HUMINT Operations Officer with the Central Intelligence Agency. After moving to the private sector, Dr. Hayden worked in both operational and leadership positions in companies ranging from large enterprises like Cisco and Vericast, to small healthcare startups and boutique consulting firms. His executive roles have included CISO, Chief Privacy Officer, and Chief Security Strategist.
Dr. Hayden’s academic and research credentials include a doctorate from UT Austin in Information Science and decades of teaching experience as adjunct faculty before becoming a full-time professor. Dr. Hayden’s courses cover numerous subjects including Cybersecurity, Privacy, and the Intelligence Community. He is the author of two cybersecurity books from McGraw-Hill, IT Security Metrics and People-Centric Security, and his research has been presented widely in journals, industry publications, and conference presentations at events such as RSA and ISC2.
